The controller is the core of Airun Plus. It has two function modes that are used to calculate and project fitness and exercise data.

The INFO mode is used to gather personal information and calculate your current health and fitness based on your Body Mass Index (BMI). Your BMI figure is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. Fat is a part of our body composition and can be an effective source of energy. However, too much body fat can lead to serious health conditions associated with obesity such as Diabetes, Heart Disease and strokes. Reducing our body fat through exercise and controlled weight loss is proven to significantly reduce these health risks. BMI calculations are great because they give you a reliable indicator of body fatness without having to measure it directly.
In the INFO mode the controller asks for:
- Your weight
- Height
- Age
- Gender
- The weight of the insole (By letting the controller know what weight insole you’ve selected it will calculate your calorie burn figure accordingly)
The EXER mode is used to view a variety of statistics
1. Statistics related to your current health and fitness:
- BMI
- The recommended amount of calories to be burnt each day
- Your optimal recommended weight based on your BMI
2. Real-time statistics based on your performance during exercise:
- Calories burnt
- Percentage of recommended exercise achieved
- Paces taken
- Distance travelled
- Time spent exercising
The controller receives the real time information from a sensor which is positioned in the middle of the trainer, safely inside the sole.
This sensor recognises the movement made when walking/ running and sends this information to the controller's electrical signal. A first in footwear technology, the sensor can measure the speed at which you are moving and the weight which is being put on the trainer as you walk.
As discovered in the development of Airun Plus, most of us fail to maintain our exercise plans, diets and fitness regimes because we lack motivation and are disheartened when we don’t see or feel results fast.
Airun Plus has been designed as a solution to this problem and as a new development in the fitness tools used by athletes. The controller has the ability to calculate your recommended optimum daily exercise goal so you never begin exercising without a target in mind, helping to keep you motivated and focused. As you exercise, you can get real time updates from the controller so you can adjust the intensity of your exercise based on how many more calories you have to burn, or the percentage you have to go to reach your recommended optimum daily exercise goal. 
By clearly outlining your current fitness levels and calculating an exercise programme that will get you to your optimum fitness, Airun Plus is an essential support tool to all levels of wearers – from those looking to lose weight and improve their exercise value, to those looking to gain specific information on the success and effectiveness of their workouts.
By checking your daily exercise statistics you can keep up to date with your fitness progression and see improvements as they happen. As your fitness improves you will see an increase in the calories burnt figure and keep motivated by comparing the burn figure with your recommended daily calorie consumption. By keeping a record of your exercise time and distance, you can chart your fitness progression as you improve to cover a larger distance in less time.
As your fitness improves and you begin to reach your recommended calorie burn each day, you can re-enter your weight statistic and compare your BMI from the original statistic to chart your progression to fitness. Once you are constantly achieving your recommended calorie burn you should asses your weight and re-enter it every 10 day cycle. As your BMI decreases Airun Plus will recalculate your fitness plan accordingly to keep you training at your optimum level.

How does the Controller Measure BMI?
The users height, weight, age and gender data are input into the controller. Your BMI is then calculated and displayed on the LCD screen. Your personal BMI is used to determine your optimal exercise goal (calorie burn) and data can be re-input at any time to measure progress.
