Ecco are a Scandinavian based, family owned business and they have been designing and producing footwear for over 45 years. Unlike other footwear manufacturers, Ecco own all of the factories and tanneries which they use so they know exactly how their shoes are made and have the utmost control.

The first outdoor performance shoe which Ecco made was on the request of Prince Frederick of Denmark who wanted a boot for trekking across Greenland. Since then the outdoor performance division has become Ecco’s fastest growing sector.

Even with the new motion control technologies that have been introduced into the sports shoe market, research shows that the rate of injuries still hasn’t decreased in the past 20 years. Using this research Ecco realised that foot-first philosphy was the key behind better walking and running shoes and so Ecco Biom was born!

For the Ecco Biom Trainers, Ecco have teamed up with leading Biomechanics researchers to truly understand how the foot moves and reacts, after all the human body has had thousands of years to evolve and adapt to walking and running and shoes can often hinder this development rather than support it. By supporting and enabling the natural systems and movements within the foot Biom shoes encourage a more natural gait whilst also strengthening the muscles and ligaments. Any unneccessary features such as over cushioning and motion control have been stripped, leaving only the features necessary for a natural motion.

Ecco are relatively unknown within the running shoe field and they have been asked why they didn’t initially make a name for themselves in this market before extending to the Ecco Biom style. Ecco have always believed that the “Foot comes first” and they could not stay true to this philosophy unless they produced a shoe that they really believed in.
