Ecco have been manufacturing shoes for over 48 years and they are one of only a handful of shoe manufacturers who have not only survived but also grown and prospered in an ever changing environment.
Ecco is still a family owned, financially strong company so they never need to make short term decisions like trying to save on material or compromise on quality. To ensure the high quality that they demand Ecco need to control every stage of their business, and that is exactly what they do. Ecco designers develop the collections every season and the leather is then produced at tanneries owned by Ecco.
The crucial idea behind every design and shoe created by Ecco has been high quality mixed with casual comfort and a perfect fit. No shoe leaves the Design Centre without being checked for lightness, softness, flexibility and fit.
It all began with Birte and Karl Toosbuy who were originally based in a small factory in Bredebro, Denmark and had a small team who began producing shoes under the brand Venus. In the early days it was tough, with the Toosbuys working long hours with endless problems arising. As money was so tight recycling was necessary and every piece of material and string was conserved and saved. The dedication of staff was paramount and during one snow storm a member of staff even used her father’s tractor to get to work.
Karl Toosbuy was an ambitious entrepreneur and with his small team he developed a range of innovative products using pioneering methods. Breaking tradition, he was the first to realise that shoes should be made to fit the foot and as a result when Ecco’s comfortable and functional shoes were released in the 1970’s they were an instant hit!
In every stage of his career, Toosbuy challenged himself and everyone around him to do things better and faster than others. It was this constant demand for improvement that has led to the present Ecco culture that is based around an unwavering determination and commitment to achieving even the most far reaching goals.
The most important thing has always been the quality of the shoes and that idea has lay at the heart of Ecco since they first began.
Technology Explained >>>
Technology Explained
Ecco demand high quality within each design they produce and they need to be as comfortable as they are stylish. To achieve this Ecco have featured the following technologies which feature in different combinations across the LoveThoseShoes Ecco range:
Ecco’s Comfort Fibre System -This is featured in the bottom later of Ecco’s removable insoles. It is a soft, durable material that has been developed to provide exceptional comfort as it follows the contours of the feet and will not lose shape during use. The open celled design of the material creates a pump effect when walking to circulate the air around the feet to keep them fresh. The material also neutralises the bacteria found in sweat to reduce odour. The CFS also absorbs shock when walking to reduce the impact put on the lumbar region of the back, the spinal column and the coccyx.
Ecco’s Receptor Technology- is designed to offer support and comfort through the three phases of every step and is specifically designed to mimic the natural motion of the foot to provide superb comfort.
Step 1– Your foot pushes off and the sole of the shoe flexes with the ball of your foot giving you an extra boost.
Step 2– This is the mid stance when the supporting foot is under pressure due to holding the most body weight, the support of the Receptor sole allows the Great ligament in the supporting foot to lock into place to give maximum stability.
Step 3 –The heel of the foot hits the ground at a 20 degree angle which provides the momentum you need to follow through into the next step. This can be damaging to the heel but the cushioning of the Receptor sole offers protection and reduces muscle fatigue.
Direct Injected PU –This process of attaching the sole is used within the majority of Ecco shoes. It can be injected to create various densities and combinations such as PU or TPU/PU. The process of direct injection moulding creates a water tight and durable bond between the sole and the upper.
The direct injected PU sole is exceptionally lightweight to reduce pressure and fatigue in the feet and legs however it is also extremely durable and high performing.

Benefits
To guarantee their performance and durability, all Ecco shoes are tested first by machines and then on human feet to ensure their comfort. The shoes are tested by employees and trialed for wear, comfort and durability during daily activities to make sure they will perform in real life situations.
Ecco shoes are designed around the foot so that they support the natural motion and bend with the foot rather than the other way round.
