Foot Care Guide: How to look after feet
Foot Care Guide: How to look after feet

Looking after your feet is extremely important. The feet can be one of the most tell tale signs of a health problem as they affect so many other parts of the body.

If something isn’t right in your feet then it can give you bad posture, a bad back, knee and joint pain. They can also show early signs of conditions like diabetes, arthritis and poor circulation along with many other issues in the feet and toes themselves! If you feel pain on your body then finding the right pair of shoes can often be a solution.

Massage Foot

Taking good care of your feet should become part of your body care routine, they need just as much attention as our hair and skin! We’ve put together this helpful foot care guide so you know everything you need to know about feet, how to look after them and how to keep them healthy and happy!

Why are they so Important?

Foot Facts

  • There are 26 bones found in each foot which makes up a ¼ of the bones in our body. There are also 66 joints and 38 muscles and tendons!
  • On average we walk about 10,000 steps a day! That’s quite a lot of work for our poor little feet!
  • Most foot problems like bunions, hammer toe and calluses are caused by ill fitting shoes
  • Your feet can produce up to half a pint of moisture each day and will swell up by the afternoon
  • Exercise, even as simple as walking, puts added pressure on your feet and this pressure can move up the legs to the back and spine

Clean Feet

Looking after feet

We are all going to suffer with feet problems and feel some sort of foot pain in our lives, whether it is as small as a blister or an in-growing toe nail or as big as a bunion!

Introducing some general foot care into our routine will ensure our feet are in good condition and any problems like these are caught early enough to not get out of control or become more serious.

It may sound obvious but washing your feet every day and making sure you have rinsed off all the soap and dried properly all over including inbetween the toes is hugely important. Not doing this can lead to problems like athlete’s foot and other fungal infections. Plus, you should always cut your toe nails straight and not too short!

Wear shoes which fit you properly and always remember to try them out first to make sure they are suitable for your foot shape and are comfortable for you. Change your socks everyday and only where good quality, well-fitting ones.

You should visit a podiatrist regularly. A podiatrist is a foot doctor and can advise on all sorts of care for your feet and suggest the appropriate foot treatments should you need it. If you are over 50 then you should visit a podiatrist at least once a year.

But, just getting to know our feet a little better could make a whole lot of difference!

And, try Beech Sandals, an innovative shoe that has become saviour to people with problem feet. The individual toe separators stretch the bones found in the feet helping them become mobile and youthful again.

Feet will look better and having straighter toes improves posture helping to alleviate back ache too.
Your foot strength will increase and they encourage greater toe and ankle flexibility and if they are worn for just ten minutes a day around the house, feet can show signs of improvement in 2-3 weeks.
