The idea for Kigo footwear was created after a long day skiing! Rather than being able to enjoy apres ski, the founders of Kigo found that wearing heavy snow boots and shoes, meant they were uncomfortable and their feet were restricted. They realised what was needed was stylish, minimalistic shoes that were good for the feet and the body, and so Kigo was born! 

Rather than listen to the saying “you can't be everything to everyone,” Kigo have worked tirelessly to prove this statement wrong and with shoes that are stylish, athletic, comfortable, good for the body and environmentally friendly it seems they have succeeded! 

When producing their footwear, Kigo know that environmental responsibility is key  and so the shoes and packaging are constructed using environmentally, post consumer and biodegradable materials, so your conscience can feel as good as your feet!

Technology Explained

Kigo footwear is made using an innovative material called Cyclepet, this is a flexible, lightweight textile which is made from recycled materials and allows the feet to breathe so they feel fresh all day long. The removable insole is contoured to offer support to the foot and arches and is also anti microbial to prevent the build up of bacteria and fungi which can cause foot odour. 

The rubber outsole of Kigo footwear is made using a thin, high denstiy rubber with a flexible midsole which gives the utmost protection while still allowing you to connect with the ground, this rubber outsole is non slip with a grit overlay to give added stability. A thin sole allows you to gain the sense of walking barefoot and this has proven positive effects on the whole body, not only does it improve the posture but as you are walking as nature intended you will begin to use the muscles in your feet and legs correctly which reduces any aches and pains. 

A Kigo shoe weighs approximately 5 ounces which helps to reduce the pressure put on the legs and prevents foot fatigue so you can walk for longer.

What is the general width of kigo footwear?

kigo footwear is a medium width shoe. The upper stretches so the shoe will fit to the wearer’s foot. Barefoot runners may find these shoes to be slightly narrow and are advised to order a size up. Please see the kigo footwear fit guide for assistance with selecting the best size.

 What is the size range of kigo footwear shoes?

kigo footwear shoes are offered in whole sizes. The kigo star sizing ranges from a Woman’s size UK2.5 - 6.5. The kigo shel sizing ranges from a Woman’s size 2.5 to 6.5 and a Men’s size 7.5 to 9.5

Care

How do I clean my kigos?

If your kigos get dirty, simply wipe them with a damp rag or hand wipe. kigo footwear shoes will dry nicely in the sunshine. Do not use soap on kigo footwear, as it will compromise future stain and water resistance.

Can I run in my kigos?

Yes! A growing number of minimalist runners have discovered kigo footwear as a great barefoot running option. The 5oz per shoe weight, breathable upper and thin, flexible outsole combine for a comfortable, protected running shoe.

Can my kigos get wet?

Absolutely. Your kigos love water. If you submerge your foot, it will get wet, but the shoes will still feel great. kigos are ideal for beach, river and paddle activities, thanks to a quick drying upper fabric and high-grip outsoles. 

If you wear kigos in the rain, the revolutionary EPA approved water/stain resistance will keep feet dry. 

Will kigos work with my orthotics?

kigo footwear shoes are minimalist in design, so do not provide an excessive amount of foot bed contouring on their own. The shoes have been tested with ¾ length orthotics with success for those who need more support. 

Can I remove the insole?

The kigo footwear insole is removable. Composed of EVA and slightly contoured, the insole provides light support. With the insole removed, the shoe offers superior ground feel and flexibility for those seeking a truly barefoot stride. 

Do the shoes stretch?

The CYCLEPET uppers will start out initially snug to the foot and then stretch to fit the foot. If the shoes begin to feel stretched out, run them through a gentle washer and dry them in the sun or a gentle drier to tighten up the fabric. 

Do the shoes smell after a while ?

While we can’t promise your shoes won’t smell, kigo footwear uppers are breathable and the insides of the shoes have been treated with an antimicrobial coating to minimize smell as much as possible.
