Orthaheel Brand Info

The Scholl Orthaheel range was a new creation developed by Australian podiatrist, Phillip Vasyli.
Phillip Vasyli is a podiatrist with a specialist interest in the area of Orthaheel which is the study of how the body moves. For years, Phillip has treated his own patients’ aches and pains by making them custom-made orthotic insoles for their shoes that would re-position the feet and impact way they moved. Their walking gait would become more natural.
Phillip Vasyli realised that the cost of custom-made orthotics was an expensive one and set out to develop an 'over-the-counter' foot orthotic that patients could just slip into their shoes and wear straight away. This was easier, cheaper and a faster solution.
Scholl are a brand that know the importance healthy feet! Our feet are our foundation and are often the only part of the body that is in contact with the ground so they need to support the whole body as we walk and move.
Orthaheel Technology Explained >>>
Orthaheel Technology Explained
The Scholl Orthaheel Footwear range has been specifically developed to re-position and maintain a natural motion of the feet to reduce the amount of pronation that can happen. Excess pronation can lead to many tricky foot issues which can affect the tissues of the feet, legs and even the lower back. The Scholl Orthaheel technology has been developed to help reduce these issues that can occur and aid the pain that can be experienced when walking.
The Scholl Orthaheel Footwear we stock work is this way:
Each sandal and open footwear we carry has the Scholl Orthaheel technology incorporated into the footbed. This range of footwear has been developed to tackle and overcome the problem where people cannot add their own orthotic inserts into open footwear. The ergonomically shaped footbed fits closely to the bottom of the foot, held in place by stylish straps or fastenings. This has been designed to affect the position and motion of the foot to reduce the amount of pronation that takes place when they are worn.
Orthaheel Benefits >>>
Orthaheel Benefits
The Scholl Orthaheel range can be used to help effectively treat different types of aches and pains. Many of these are may be linked to the way we walk and the forces that act on the feet as they hit the ground:
If you suffer with one of the following you will see a benefit of wearing Orthaheel products:

- Lower Back Pain
The majority of us suffer with back pain but it can be linked to foot problems such as over pronation. When the the foot over pronates, it rolls outwards, flattening to the ground which forces the leg to turn inwards. This can change the alignment of the hips, the pelvis and the lower back causing back ache.
By wearing Orthaheel shoes, the moulded footbed can reduce over pronation and help re-align the body.

- Back Heel Pain
The most cause of pain at the back of the heel is due to the inflammation of the Achilles tendon. The Achilles tendon is a strong band of tissue that connects the calf muscle to the heel bone and is a crucial part of the body when walking. When the heels roll outwards (pronate) the pressure becomes very painful.
By wearing Orthaheel shoes, the moulded footbed reduces the excess pronation and will elevate pain off the heel. This reduces the forces and strains affecting the Achilles tendon.

- Knee Pain
Sometimes the amount of pronation can lead to stresses in other parts of the body and these can build up into aches and pains. The movement when pronating can cause the leg to rotate inwards which changes the alignment of the legs which can lead to knee pain. By reducing pronation, Orthaheel shoes can prevent knee pain.

- Ball of foot pain
Pain in the ball of the foot can be caused by the stress put on this part of the foot. Footwear such as high heels increase the stress on the ball of the foot and lead to a build up of pressure. Other causes can include the cushioning under the ball of the foot thinning due to age.
The moulded footbed of Orthaheel Sandals helps to position the foot correctly and redistribute the body weight to help reduce ball of foot pain.

- Heel Pain
The most common cause of pain under the heel is known as plantar fasciitis where the ligament from the ball of the foot to the heel becomes inflammed. The plantar fascia is a strong band of tissue that runs all along the bottom of the foot and supports the arch of the foot which is crucial for walking.
By wearing Orthaheel shoes, the over-stretch of the ligaments and arch are supported to alleviate any pain.
